Hmmm, interesting day. I'm going to start by saying I'm so happy I qualified for Boston but totally bumbed I didn't meet my goal of 3:30 or less. I actually felt awesome the whole race considering the crazy weather.

First of all I couldn't find Julie and Angela at the start which totally stressed me out but I found Cheris and Michelle M. and started with them. About 100 yards in I realized my shoe was untied and had to stop and tie it and catch back up. I peed 3 times before the race started and right when I started had the urge to go again. I waited a little bit and Cheris said she had to go so we stopped together and went and I swear I had 32 ounces in me. We caught back up to Michelle and kept at it. We met up with Julie and Angela before Veyo and started running with them. I had the urge to go again and ducked off in th bushes with Julie. I was feeling so energetic and Veyo seemed easy and I actually did it a couple of seconds under pace. Well, I had to pee again a little bit later and this is where I lost everyone. My IPOD died also from all the water. I ended up having to stop to go pee 8 times!!!! I don't know what my problem was. If anyone has any opinion as to why I had these issues, feel free to comment.  I did my best to hurry and I think at least 300 people saw my butt throughout the whole race, including the helicopter that was right by me one time. I started to get tight around mile 18. I am convinced that I was cold enough that my muscles were crampy for that reason because after I sat in the hot tub I felt pretty good. Anyway, I felt really strong the whole race but I didn't want to give it too much of a kick to early and have issues so I stayed steady and strong. I met back up with Julie the last mile and we stayed together until the last 1/4 and I felt so good that I sprinted to the end. All in all I am happy with my results but I know with better conditions and my bathroom issue, I could've knocked at least 10 minutes off. Oh well, I"M GOING TO BOSTON!!

Oh, I drank 8 ounces of Zip Fizz and 12 ounces of gatorade before the race. I ate steel cut oats, banana and 1/2 clif bar. My typical prerace breakfast. Also, 3 ibuprofen and 1 imodium.

Congratulations to all and lets all hope for no rain and a better race next year.

Wow! Very impressive! Eight bathroom breaks and still a great time and a BQ! You go g rl! You know the reason the helicopter is there is to catch some really great pictures! Maybe you'll make the papers! ha ha! Congratulations! I'm glad I got to meet you!

From Julie on Oct 05, 2008 at 21:19:03

We are going to Boston baby!!!! You did such a great job. I agree you could have finished much faster without those potty issues. You looked so strong that last mile. You're awesome.

Hey good job on the race! All you BBK's seemed to have super races, your team training seems to have done the trick. Given that most folks were 5-20 minutes off their times yesterday should give you great confidence that you have a 3:15-3:30 marathon in you. And that 8 pee breaks has got to be a blog record!

Also nice to meet you at the blog party. Hey if you see Terry Bean around make sure and kick him in the shin for me for being such a big meany and taking far to much pleasure the last 1/2 mile in beating his old HS buddy.

From Andy on Oct 05, 2008 at 21:34:57

Congratulations and enjoy Boston. I wish I would have recognized you at the blog party so I could have said "Hi".

Great job on qualifying for Boston!! It looks like you still have some more PR's in you. Coach Bean say HI to Braydon.

From Mike Warren on Oct 05, 2008 at 22:34:56

You were looking very good at 22 when you went by. Great job on the BQ! Very cool to achive it under such tough conditions. With all the stops, no doubt you can go much faster. Great job!!

From MarcieJ on Oct 05, 2008 at 22:54:44

Great job Michelle! With all the bathroom stops too! Have a great time at Boston, its an awesome experience. Sorry I gave you false information about what to expect for the weather:)

From peggy on Oct 06, 2008 at 11:51:12

You ran a good race, in spite of the weather and the potty breaks. Just think what you have to come!

It was fun hanging out with you and Julie and Angela. Tell CJ thanks again for dinner.

From Cheris on Oct 06, 2008 at 11:51:46

What a fun time! I'm glad I had someone to go to the bathroom behind (sort of) that bush! I have no idea what would make your bladder go into hyperdrive, but hey, with your time still being awesome, it just made the marathon a TOTAL adventure.

From Cal on Oct 06, 2008 at 12:23:00

Great job Michelle! Congratulations on your Boston qualifier.

From Kelli on Oct 06, 2008 at 16:26:51

I will actually take the rain, at least it was not hot!

You had a great race and I was glad to get to see you twice that day! I wished I could have stayed ahead of you, that would have made my day!!! But, I knew it was just a fluke---you always kick my butt. However, I am proud to have you kick my butt! You are awesome.

Belated congrats on a fine run.

Michelle,

Great race. I have been curious about the peeing thing too. I recently took up swimming and about half and hour into the workout the urges start. I wonder if it is an osmosis thing. I would blame it all on the rain. Awesome job qualifying for Boston and getting a PR!
