Well, these miles did not feel easy at all. Met with some of the running group at Julie's house at 7:00. Ran the first mile a slower pace, but after that, game on. Did a 6 mile loop back to Julie's for those that only had time for 6 and then did another 4. Overall pace 9:00...and probably to fast and too many miles, too soon. Felt good to be done early though and enjoyed the rest of the day.

My first 2 were faster than I would have like (8:50ish) even though that felt comfortable and effortless. I turned around and it wasn't hard to slow down because the wind was blowing soooo hard. Didn't get much sleep last night, but still got up at 5:30 to meet Eric, Aaron and company for a nice run. We drove out to Copperton and ended near the District. Mostly a downhill run with a few rollers here and there. I really liked this and think it will be a good downhill training run.

I started way too fast (8:00) and held between 8:00-8:30 for the first 8 miles. At that point Aaron sped up and I ran with a guy I didn't know. He was planning on 15, but the pace was a little fast for him the whole time so he called it quits at 13 with me. We slowed a bit, but still kept it under 9. AP 8:30.

I felt really good all day and I'm not sore. Was worried I had pushed a little too hard, but I guess not. So, I like running with people a little bit, but I tell ya, I really enjoy doing my own pace...I think I listen to my body a little more and am smarter when I'm not trying to run someone else's pace.

4 out from work down to JRP and south and back. Started really sluggish...legs were tight and heavy, felt better around mile 3 and got into a rhythm. My miles were meant to be comfortable today. 9:26, 9:29, 9:21,9:10, 9:00,8:40, 8:51,8:56 - AP 9:07

I needed this slower paced day. I've been trying to prove to myself that I can run fast and keep forgetting that recovery is soooo important and that I  am just base building right now.

PM - Did some plyometrics, band resistance, and abs in the evening. My legs were dead at the end. Stretched really good and rolled them out.

What a weird morning! I knew it would be a little chilly so I wore a long sleeve and threw my gloves on at the last second. Ran from work down to JRP and headed south. Felt fantastic and was just keeping a nice comfortable pace to let the legs recover. Got to the 4 mile point and turned around and realized how windy it was from the north. And then...what the heck, SNOW!!! I didn't expect that and wasn't dressed accordingly. 2.75ish heading north in snow that was pelting me in the face:( The last 1.25 wasn't so bad because it is east so at least I could see out of my right eyeball!

Saw a fox on the trail this morning and lots of very protective ducks.

AP 9:18 and it felt very comfortable and nice the whole time!

Legs were way sore from the plymotrics the other night. I'm glad I didn't do more than I did or I would've been really hating it! Thought I would be smart and only run 4 on the treadmill at work and then do some core work and stretch. Started my first mile and decided that I wanted to go outside...so I did. Headed up 9800 S. to Redwood and back. Legs were a bit sore on the uphill, but felt great on the down. First TM mile warm-up was 9:40 and I didn't wear my Garmin outside. Uphill was probably aroung 9:15-9:30ish, but the rest probably low 8's.

I realized at about mile 5-6 that I was really pushing it on whether I was going to get here on time or not. I had already been picking up the pace a bit, but really had to start pushing it. 1-7:56(way downhill),2-9:00,3-9:06,4-8:51,5-8:37,6-8:17,7-8:20, 8-8:05,9-7:52,10-8:31,.6-4:57(8:20) Last 1.25 is a good climb so that is why the slow down. Julie and I got to help "beautify" the SLCC Campus this morning by planting lots of flower so I didn't get to run until 10:30 and by then it was too darn hot. Especially since I had been outside for 3 hours already. Soooo, I opted for the TM in the AC. Warmed up for 20 minutes, did 10 minutes of 1 min. on/1 off 6:58/10:00 pace. 25 more minutes of 6.7 and that's it!

My right inner ankle tendon is feeling "off". It makes me nervous because that is where I got injured before Boston and my big slump started. I'm thinking I need to slow down a bit and just run very comfortable.

Very eventful morning. Planned on 8 and should'v gone with my gut and run on the trail, but when I got down 9800 to the trail area, there were so many bugs and I didn't want to battle that so I headed out 9800. Got about 50 yards away from 1300 W. and saw a nasty car accident. Nobody else was around soooo, since I saw it happen, I was a good citizen and hung around to give my side of the story to the po-po. Holy cow, it was probably 20 minutes before he got there! Anywho, gave him my side of the story, my phone # and I was on my way. At that point I figured I only had time for 6 total so I kept heading west, got stuck at the light on Redwood forever. When I finally got the signal to cross, some old man in a handicapped mini-van almost ran me over! I made a scene and jumped around like a crazy woman in the middle of the road:) Turned around at 2200 W. and back down the hill. That is when my lower leg starts to get buggy...on downhill:( I love down so this sucks!!! Such is life though, right? I tried to keep it slower all in all...AP 8:51. It makes me sad not running a little faster, but I figure I'm being smart...or something like that.

Before the cadet workout I also did some attempted pull-ups-did some hangs with partial pulls, a few jump and pulls with resistance on the way down and 2 1/2 assisted. Again-weak sauce! 2 sets of 15 bicep curls.

Officially DAY 1 of marathon training. My little dude had his last soccer game at 8:00 so I am opting to do my longer run tomorrow. I ran home from his game along 13400 S. It starts nice downhill so I decided I ought to try and run at or faster than the pace I am pacing Drop 13 on June 15 (1:50) I ran the down effortless at and below 8:15's. When I hit the up on 4000 W heading south towards Bluffdale, I slowed a little, but kept my overall pace at 8:30. I felt totally fine so I'm guessing I will have no trouble at all with the major down of Big Cottonwood. Doing a longer run with Julie tomorrow down from Copperton.

Got home and did push-ups - 3 sets for a total of 38 MAN push-ups. Shoulder is feeling better and I'm feeling stronger.

Met Julie at her house at 7:00 and drove out to Copperton. Ran down to Old Bingham Hwy, to 4800 W, to 9800 S, to 4000 W, to 11800 S, back through her neighbor hood. There is about 1000 ft. loss in elevation, but a lot of it is in the first. The middle has some flat and pretty decent uphill. Felt good and overall pace was 8:26 (which included a SLOW .35 at the end to cool down and a MAJOR headwind coming from the SE the entire time).

Got home and went hiking up to Donut Falls with the fam. Planned very poorly and didn't take food (duh for a mother of 5) because it is only 1 1/2 miles round trip, but we decided to go up further to some old mines. I think we did a total of about 4-5. Newest cadets were doing a 5k today so I decided to run a couple miles and warm-up and then join them. The Sgt. in charge decided to start them a couple minutes early and I saw them in the distance (.5 mile) ahead of me. Lit a fire and I passed the 3 girls way early on and the next male soon after. I had 2 more within 50 yards the last mile, and narrowed down to probably 25 feet, but didn't quite catch them. My Garmin battery was dead so I have no clue what my time was since I didn't start with them. I'm guessing around 24ish. I do like to go by feel and today during the 5k I felt like my effort was around 65-70%...I don't want to push too hard having to pace on Saturday. Afterwards, I ran the 1/2 mile out and back 4 times with another class.

I really like working out with the cadets. It brings out my competitive side and I definitely push harder.

Did some pull-ups when I got back to the gym and stretched really good.

OH MY FUN!!! Paced the 1:50 group for the Drop 13 with Julie today. It was an absolute blast!!! I grew up in Holladay and LOVE Big Cottonwood Canyon and am doing the full marathon in Sept. so I figured when Walter announced this race for pacers, I'd jump in. I was a little nervous about having the oomph to motivate people, but I felt the best I've ever felt during a longer run. It was actually a little difficult to hold myself back. I would've loved to have raced this one, but really enjoyed the easier pace and company and most of all, helping others reach their goal. I really do think serving others is so rewarding! The weather couldn't have been more perfect the entire time. I think the "Crossfit" style workouts at work help with downhill because as of now, my legs are totally fine. I am going to keep up on all of the plyometrics, etc.

Started right on time...I had to pee, but didn't make it before hand so I went around mile 4. All of the miles were marked pretty decent on the course and it was easy to keep track of our splits. We had about 1 minute in the bank towards the end, but figured we would use it just in case and try to help and motivate others. The course was a little short so we stood around at the end clapping and cheering for others for around 45 seconds and then ran in...I lost my mind and ran in 4 seconds too early, but there wasn't anyone else near so figured it was all good. I had 2 gals give me a hug and thank me for helping with their PR and several others thank us for being there to keep them on track. I have been on cloud 9 all day (except for the crummy tummy do to the GU at mile 5 that wasn't needed).

Now, for the important question...what pace do I shoot for in Sept. for the full. I felt like I could've easily run at least 1-1 1/2 minutes faster per mile, but the marathon has 17 miles down and then flattens out and only has a drop of 500ft. the last 9 miles. I don't want to kill myself and my legs down the canyon, but want to take advantage all I can of the down. It really is my strongest running. Welp, that's all folks!

I would like to have my husband drop me off up at Brighton next month and do 14 down the canyon and end with 6 flatter miles and maybe decide after that??? Well, the calves were definitely sore from Saturday. Slight soreness in the quads, but nothing to complain about. Really though, feel pretty darned good. Ran 2.5 out and back from work. My calves were screaming at me until mile 4ish. Dang Scott(Kelli's hubby) passed me and I had no drive to even try to keep up. Anywho, AP 9:10 which was very comfortable. I don't think I could've run faster even I wanted because of the calves.

Got back to the gym and did 3sets of push ups and sit ups.

Push ups - 1-30, 2-14, 3-14

Sit ups (as many as I could in 1 minute x 3) - 1-40, 2-20, 3-20

Didn't have to be to work until 7:30 today so I decided to meet the BBK's at 5:45 down near Lifetime Fitness. We warmed up for a mile and then did 5 minutes on/3minutes off...not really sure what "on" was...I kept at around a 7:30 pace during the on and didn't pay attention to the off. We did this 3 times and then ran 1 or so miles at a comfortable pace. Julie and I ran a few more afterwards and that took us to 9 total. I rushed over to work, ran 1 more and then went into the gym and did some other fun stuff...45 pushups, 28 pull ups (on the assisted pull up machine) and 30 twisting decline situps. Stretched really good after that.

AP for all the running...even when walking and standing around some...8:35 and felt super

400 meter run

25 push ups

400 meter run

25 sit ups

400 meter run

10 burpees

400 meter run

5 times through as fast as you can! What is with me trying to outdo all of these boys?:) Sgt. Garcia that works with me came in at 1:06:3x? and I was next with 1:08:52. The first cadet came in around 3-4 minutes later and the next after that were probably 10+. I showered and was heading back up to my desk by the time the last one was finishing up. Did an awesome run with Julie and Kris down Big Cottonwood. Started 12 miles up (AP for the Canyon 7:56 which felt pretty darned good). Headed down to Holladay Blvd., to Haven Ln., Cottonwood Ln, Walker Ln. to Highland Dr. and down 5600 S to Cottonwood High. There was still some downhill coming out of the canyon for the final 6, but definitely a lot flatter. Figured this would determine a bit how the marathon is going to feel. We still will have 5 miles of pretty steep downhill out of the canyon and 3 more out, but we didn't slow too much once we hit the bottom and the legs felt okay. I'd like to do a 20 and add maybe 1 more canyon mile and one more flat. AP for the whole thing 8:07.

I turned my left ankle 2 times on the small shoulder and my right once. I was pretty sore the next day, but nothing unbearable...however, my right ankle is pretty sore. That is the one I broke last year and those darned tendons just ache.

Still up in the air about a pace for this marathon. Obviously the pace was pretty quick, but we have a lot more mileage to go and I haven't been doing speed work (other than just running some faster miles here and there). Who knows??? I think I should be able to do 3:30 or faster???

I made it to almost a mile (with several stops to try and relax or stretch my shins), but figured it was not happening. I turned around and got another 1/4 mile in and just could not, nor did I want to do any more. Soooo, I walked back to work and did a few laps of walking around the parking lot. I probably walked around 1 1/2 miles total.

I went into the gym and did a few pushups and sit ups and called it quits!

5 from work out on the trail, up 10600 S. and back. I felt a bit sluggish and didn't wear my garmin. I think my time was pretty decent though.

Lovely experience. Was supposed to run 12, but wore a new running skirt and my inner thighs started to chaff really bad. It got to the point at mile 6 that I really knew I was done. Julie finished the run and came back and picked me up.

Ran part of the way to work. Made sure to wear some good compression shorts because we went to Lagoon yesterday and the already chaffed inner thighs got even worse after Rattlesnake Rapids and then walking around. They are really bad...worst chaffing I've ever had:( Anyway, decent run...AP 8:51

Speaking of good thing for compression shorts, we took the youth to the lake on Saturday and did some tubing and wakeboarding. One of the boys was tubing and fell off but wouldn't let go. Finally his shorts fell right off, but luckily he had some spandex on underneath.

You're going to need to keep this up if you're going to catch that mail thief.

In three more days it will be a year since you last blogged. Doesn't seem like that long.
