Short-Term Running Goals: I've gotten the running bug back and hope I can continue to enjoy it. I think for now, my short-term goal is to NOT burn myself out. I am pro at doing that. I have a half and full marathon that I am planning on racing in a few months. I hope to be trained well enough to PR in both, but if not...I will enjoy the ride. Long-Term Running Goals: Under 1:30 half
3:15 marathon

| Met Julie at her house at 6:30 and started running north out to 11800 So. and discovered that there wasn't any shoulder to run on so we decided to head back and run down to the trail. We made it about 2 1/2 out on the trail and it wasn't plowed so we turned around. We had planned on 12 or 13 but by the time we got back to her street, we decided to call it quits. The wind was a killer today. It was warm, which was nice, but the wind was soooo bad. It always amazes me how much it takes out of me. I'm not sure what the overall pace was. I'm thinking around 9:00-9:10. A little slow but it sure didn't feel like it. All in all the run kind of sucked but as usual, the company was great! |

I intended to get up early and go to the gym but my long nap yesterday made it so I couldn't fall asleep until 12:00 and 5:00 came way to early for me so I waited until I got Nicole off to school and went. I got there at 8:00 which is the perfect time I decided because people that come early are leaving and the later people aren't there yet.
Started with shoulders/tris/abs-3 movements/3 sets (15,14,13) Ran on treadmill for 6.8 miles. Overall pace was around 8:45. It felt a little tough the first few miles but then I warmed up and felt good. I was a little innerly competitive today. The girls on the treadmills on either side of me were running FAST but they both stopped at 30 minutes so I figured they were just good with short distance. That's what I'll tell myself anyway:) |

| Met the BBK's at SJ Park today. BIG group-I didn't count but it looked close to 20. We ran a little different route than the one we normally run because the roads were still bad in Triple Crown. Overall pace was 8:34. I had 1 mile at 8:11 and 1 at 8:16 but the rest were just average. It was soooo windy today which made it a little miserable. It was definately one of those days that I wonder why I do this:) |

| Met up with the BBK's this chilly morning at 6:30 to test run the Riverton half marathon route. Riverton Paul actually came and ran with us. Today is a perfect example of why the treadmill is better in the winter. I finally felt good though and had a good run. We started out at just over a 9:00 minute pace then settled into the low 8's. The JRP trail was AWFUL. So much ice and snow. Poor Jody almost fell several times. I had to take 2 potty breaks, ugh. At the end we ran down by the golf course and there was A TON of ice and snow and my left ankle is kind of bugging me now from all the motion. It was bitter cold but very little wind. Boosts my confindence for Painters. Overall pace 8:40, even with all the snow, ice and hills. |

Okay, I slept pretty good and we woke up at 7:00. Ate steel cut oats, zip fizz and 1/2 cliff bar. Got to start at 8:35 and found Teena. Julie and I started with her.
Miles
1-8:03 A little faster than we wanted to start.
2-8:06 Pretty good
3-7:59 GU and water stop
4-7:47
5-7:58
6-7:40
7-7:47
8-7:39 I left Julie and Teena because I felt good and wanted to start pushing the pace a bit
9-7:40
10-7:31
11-7:52 GU stop and feeling a little tired
12-7:37
13-7:37
.25-1:42(7:09 pace) -Everyone I talked to measured around this distance on their GPS
This was a good run. It is hard for me to know if I could've done much better because I didn't push it the first 9 miles but started to get tired at the end when I started pushing harder. Although, I passed around 20 women the last 4-5 miles. Always a great thing. Only 2 men passed me from mile 7 on. I feel like I did great considering my slacking during December. Lots of fun. |

I'm in Maui and this morning we drove the road to Hana and hiked to an awesome 400 ft waterfall (I think Waikomu Falls) it was a 4 1/2 mile hike and was amazing. About 1/2 of it is through the coolest bamboo forest.
Got back and went for a run. Started on the road and ran to the beach. I ended up taking my shoes off and running for 2 miles on the beach and then finished running on the road. It was beautiful. My garmin didn't start right away so I don't know what my overall pace was but it was nice to just enjoy my run. |

Started at Lahaina at 6:45. I wasn't sure right where it started so I was at the back of the crowd which kind of stinks because it wasn't chipped.
Miles
1-8:21 was spent passing all the slower runners.
2-7:55
3-8:09 GU and water stop
4-8:07 started picking off the women in front of me.
5-7:58 Gatorade
6-7:51
7-7:44
8-7:59 Gatorade
9-7:52
10-7:56 GU and water
11-8:00 Starting to crap out
12-8:13 Some uphill and feeling really tired
13-7:51
.14-59 seconds
Okay, so one by one I picked off several ladies. The first 2 were out of reach at the turn around but I passed the 3rd place lady but she got back in front about a mile later. We battled it out up until the end and she kept really strong so I just didn't have it in me to push past her. I'm glad I didn't beat her because we went to breakfast after with her and her husband. They were from Vegas. So, here are all my excuses of why this was not my greatest race. 1-I ran Painters a week ago, 2-Time difference has me screwed up, 3-Elevation (it is different running at sea level), 4-Blisters on my toes from running on the beach, 5-Shin splints and aching tendons from running on the beach, 6-The heat (not used to it). I guess that about covers it all:)
There were 142 people that ran the 1/2. I took 14th overall (men and women) and 4th in the women. The 2nd place women only finished 30 seconds ahead, and the 3rd was 1 second ahead. Had I not started in the back, I probably would have been 2nd or 3rd:( Oh well. They gave trophies to the top 10 women so I got a trophy. YAY! Not a huge race but put on well and lots of fun. |

Met the BBK's at Parkway Palisades today at 5:15 for the extra miles. I don't know if any of the miles were actually easy today. We did my favorite workout (not), HILLS! I am sore already and very tired. Peggy, you are an animal!!! I really felt pretty good until the last 2 hills and I really started to fade but pushed through. My throat burns a little from the inversion junk. I guess it's like smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day to run in the junk so I don't know if I'm doing good or harm by running but oh well, hopefully it clears out soon.
On another note, I got a call from a gym yesterday and they want me to come teach group fitness 3 mornings a week. I'm excited but kind of nervous. Also, my parents are coming home from their mission today! They've been gone for 18 months and I can't wait to see them. Afternoon walk with dog and child (1/2 mile) |

Met the BBK's this morning. It was actually a pretty nice morning. We warmed up for 2.97 miles before the rest of the group got there and then did another 1.33 warm up. Average pace for warm up miles was 9:07 (kind of slow but I REALLY needed that today). We then did 2x2mile tempos and cooled down for about 3/4 mile. Pace for this part of the workout was 8:17. The temperature was so nice that I shed my coat and gloves after the warm up but I didn't feel the greatest today. I was really tired and my tummy was a little upset. Afternoon walk (1 mile) |

Met at Cheris's house this morning at 6:30. Julie, Michelle, Cheris, Dean, Eric, Allen, and Kimberly all came. The route we ran is mostly uphill the first 10 miles and then gradual down the rest of the way. I was HAMMERED at about mile 4 and fell back a bit. Our first 9 miles or so were around 9:00 and then we settled down into the low 8's. Overall pace averaged at 8:52. I took sport beans at 6 and hammer gel at 12. I got home and have been completely lazy today. I haven't been this beat up after a run ever. I did up my miles and speed this week so maybe that was the problem:) Also got up in the 4 o'clock hour 2 days and earlier than normal the rest of the days. Hopefully I can start feeling better.

| I was pretty beat up from my week! I've been having a little pain in my right hammy and my lower left back/glute! This happened right around SL Marathon last year and I ended up being out of commission for 6 weeks. I hope it feels better. | Went to the gym. Jumped on treadmill for 4 miles at 9:13 pace (really needed a nice slow recovery run) then did back/biceps/abs and some good stretching then jumped back on the treadmill with the plan of running 4 more. Got to the 2 mile point and decided to up my pace to 8:49 (bad idea) within 1/2-3/4 mile my hammy really started to ache so I finished at 3 miles and cooled down for 1/4. I felt like it was better to listen to my body then to get the extra 3/4 mile in. I really felt great though other than the hammy. |

I'm thinking it was around 8.4-8.5. Overall pace was pretty slow (around 9:30ish) but I really need to baby my hamstring so I don't make it worse and we did hill repeats today so I made sure to really hold back and take it easy.. Was going to go with the BBK's but with my hamstring issue, I didn't want to have any problems with falling on the icy roads so I went to the gym and did the treadmill. I did 3 miles and then did shoulders and got part way through triceps when the childcenter called me down. My little man had a little accident so... I took him back up to the group fitness room because I was meeting my friend Ashli to go over cues for group fitness. I worked with her for about 20 minutes and then came home and practiced for about an hour. Quite a bit of cardio today but I'm not counting anything but the running miles. |

Once we hit Redwood Rd. it got really slushy and my feet were soaked. My hamstring bugged me for a few minutes but feels fine now. | First of all, I am SO sore from my class yesterday. If I'm this sore, I wonder how the poor girls that were there are feeling. I thought about staying in bed when I woke up at 4:45 but knew running would help with the soreness. Met the BBK's in SJ near the Daybreak Temple. We warmed up for 4 miles or so and then did a 10k pace for a bit which didn't end up being very fast for me today. We did a tempo pace that ended up being just over 8:00 then went back near our cars and did some hill repeats. I pushed a little harder today but still not all out. Babying the hammy still. Did another cooldown mile. The conditions were AWFUL today. Windy, snowing, slippery, cold. Did I miss anything? Days like this make me extra grateful to have such an awesome running group to get me moving! Oh, I did miss something, I had an upset stomach. |

Most of the women are new to step so it was pretty basic and I think I'll only count 3 miles for the whole hour. I am going to the gym to do Ashli's Step though and I'll try to get a few running miles in also. Later AM-Went to the gym and did a killer step class. Dana was subbing for Ashli and we were just under threshold most of the class. |

HOLY COW, I am tired! Jared and I took my mom and dad to the Jazz game last night and didn't get home until 12:40 and by the time we got in bed, it was 1:00 and then had to get up at 5:00 to teach my class. I am BEAT.
My class had more ladies in it today and took more time to talk them through some stuff so we were shy on 1 section of legs. I tried to back off as much as possible on legs so I wouldn't be dead for my 18 miler tomorrow. I actually had a fun time teaching today. The ladies were involved and trying their hardest. | I went to bed last night at 9:15, how nice is that? Met Julie at here house and headed out 2200 W. to the Gardner Village Trail for 1 1/2 miles and then back. We both felt great until mile 14 then the head wind started and really started to kill us. I wish I could finish heading north rather than south but then I'd probably be tired from the wind at the first. Oh well, it's done and I feel good. 8:54 pace overall. Started slow and got progressively faster. |

Took too long of a nap yesterday and didn't sleep great so I decided to wait until later and head to the gym. Did the Boston simulated run that Julie gave me. It is tough! 3 mile warm up at 9:00 pace then did variable hills and speeds (overall average around 8:05 or so). Last 2.2 miles were on a decline at a 7:30 pace for 1.2 then I gradually slowed down and leveled out. I am beat!

AM-Taught step class. Much better class today and I think I'll count it as 4 miles. Going to the gym to do Ashli's step.
Later AM-Went to Ashli's step class and WOWWIE! Something was up with the tempo the first 15 minutes and we were haulin'. She normally has us stepping at 148 bpm (this is music beats not heart beats, which is really fast) but I think we were going at about 160. She corrected it and took us back down to 148. Because we were so high at first my heart rate climbed pretty quick and then stayed higher than normal the rest of the class. I went out and did back/biceps/abs after. Whew! |

Met the BBK's (and my hubby) at the JRP trail. Warmed up with some of the crew for 2.7 and then the rest of the group got there and warmed up an additional mile. The main workout consisted of 2 minutes at marathon pace/1 minute at 5k pace for about 2 miles. We had the option do do the same thing on the way back or do a tempo run. I opted for the tempo because I had to go potty BAD! Jared (my hubby) stopped at Lifetime Fitness to go shower at about 7.75 miles and I continued on for another 1 1/2. Overall pace wasn't too impressive but the quick miles were all below 8:00.
It's fun to have Jared come with and he did so good. He ran with Walter for a bit but Walter wasn't running fast today. But still, I'm impressed for a guy that hardly runs. I think he has real potential to be a good runner if he wanted to try. He really likes the group so maybe that'll be motivation for him.
Thanks Jody and Walter for the company during the tough part. I also got to run with Cheris and Michelle and Julie. Great company today!

We did a progressive tempo run after warming up for 3 miles. Did some miles at Boston projected pace and some at our SG projected pace for this year. I felt decent but the hamstrings were a little achy pretty quick into the run. Dean, Michelle M., Michelle P., Cheris, Julie, Jody and me all ran together and Kris, Eric, Alan and Kimberly were shortly behind us. Overall pace was 8:35 with warm up and cool down. AM-Taught total body class. I've been teaching now for 2 weeks so I decided to up the difficulty of the class a little today. There was a new girl and she ended up leaving after 20 minutes because she got light headed and felt like she was going to throw-up. I guess that means I pushed her just a little too hard. Going to head to the gym and run 6 miles in a little bit. I wanted to go outside but it is SOOO windy.
Later AM-3 miles @ 9:30 pace, Shoulders/Triceps, 3 more miles @ 9:13. Felt good and could've kept going but I think that is enough for today:) |

5-7:06, 6-7:26, 7-6:59 (7th mile was 1/2 uphill/1/2 downhill. I hit a 4:28 pace for a little bit on that part, probably a SHORT little bit). I wish I would've pushed lap between each leg to see what my laps were because some of this was not the relays.

Miles: 1-10:00 (warm-up), 2-5.5 were 1/2 mile intervals (fast @8:00, slow @ 9:31), 1/2 mile intervals the rest of the way but I sped up on the fast to 7:53, 7:47 and did a full mile before cooldown that was 7:30. Don't know my overall pace, I'm sure I could figure it out but I'm not going to. |

Overall pace 8:46. I stopped to go to the bathroom and instead of stopping my garmin when I went, I stopped it when I started back up so my mileage got screwed up and I didn't figure it out until I got home and looked at my splits. Early AM-Met BBK's in the FREEZING COLD. I didn't get there early enough for the extra miles so I only go in 6.25 with a pretty slow AP. It was so slippery and cold that it made it hard to run any faster than we did. Didn't ever feel great.
Later AM-Felt guilty about not getting to the gym yesterday and not getting all the miles in today so I headed to the gym and ran 3.75 on the treadmill. Warmed up at a 9:30 for a mile then did kind of a progressive tempo for the next 2.5 (8:34 for 1/2, 8:0 for 1/2, 7:30 for 1 mile, 7:00 for 1/4, and 6:30 for 1/4) cooldown for 1/4. Did shoulders/triceps/abs and a little hamstring and glute work and stretched really good for about 15 minutes. Felt great during this part of the workout. |

Met a bunch of the BBK's this morning at Dean and Kris's house. We ran "THE BEST RUN EVER" according to Dean:) It was nice. I didn't get into my groove this morning until way late. We warmed up for 3 miles and then started a nice tempo pace but it felt hard to me. We got to our half way point and Dean had parked a car full of goodies for us. We stopped and refueled and started to get cold. Shaun and Lynette were heading back in the car and I felt so yucky that I jumped in the back seat with them but as soon as I did, I regretted it. I had them drop me off at Peterson's Market in Riverton and I ran up 12600 So. to the trail and started to run south until I saw Scott and Kelli. I turned around and finished with the group. They all had around 13.1 and I only had 11.5. Oh well. I guess we all have our days. I really think I over did it this week with the plyometric moves in step and total body. I am definitely feeling it. I HAVE to back off a little in my classes or I think my running is really going to suffer. Too much for my old legs. Average pace with warm up and cooldown was 8:22. All the fast miles were right around 8:00ish. |

Early AM-I have got to quit taking such long Sunday afternoon naps. It makes it hard to sleep and then I'm beat when 5:00 rolls around. Anyway, taught total body class this morning. My goal is to try and back off on legs a bit and just TEACH. I did a pretty good job of that this morning. I'm going to head to the gym and try and get in 8 miles or so.
Later AM-Got to the gym and did a 2 mile warm up and then did 2 miles at 8:34 pace. Lifted back/biceps and did some abs. Did another 2 miles at 8:34 pace then 1/2 @ 8:00, 1/2 @ 8:34, then a slow cooldown. Felt good. Definitely could tell a difference from backing off on legs in my class this morning. |

Ran with the BBK's this beautiful windy morning. Oh, I am loving the warmer weather!!! I swear I am a whole different runner when it is nice. I think the cold affects me so much. Anyway, ran 4 nice warm up miles. We then ran up the Rustic Road hill and down 6 times. We had a little recovery at the top but pushed up and down. We then did 1 minute fartleks for awhile. I really was pushing the pace on the fast. We then did 2-1/2 mile run things (run on straight/recover on curve), and last, a sprint for about 1/3 mile. 1 mile cooldown that ended up being faster than it should have. I felt AWESOME finally!!! I really wonder if I mentally get a block when it is so cold. I do think my muscles tend to cramp up a bit when it is colder and I know my lung capacity isn't as good as when it is warmer. Now, if the weather would stay nice, I'd be happy. AP was 8:27 for the whole work out.

I set my alarm last night but forgot to actually turn it on so I woke up 15 minutes late. Jared and I got to the BBK meeting place around 5:35 so we were able to get a warm up mile in before meeting with everyone. We did Parkway Palisades hills today. It was a great workout. We did a 1,3,2 mile tempo type run. After all said and done I had 7.8 miles and I wanted to hit 10 so I hurried home and told my daughter to be ready to go when I got back and hurried and ran the rest super fast. My AP today was 8:19.

I typically do 30 minutes step/30 minutes weights but today they loved the routine that I struggled with so much on Wednesday that they said they wanted to do step for 45 min. so we only go in 15 minutes of fast weights. They all liked that actually. Hmmm. It really isn't enough weights to to squat but oh well, if that's what they want...I'll count 3 for the step. Got home and ran 2 easy paced miles. I felt so good the whole time and the weather was perfect (a little windy at times but I'm not complaining). I think we all felt good and it was definitely the week I needed. We started out a little slower for the first 5 miles or so but picked up significantly and averaged 8:26. We had several miles under 8 and lots just right around 8. I think my garmin is having some issues and it may be time to splurge and buy a new one. We ended at Michelle M.'s and had yummy bagels and chocolate milk. Talking about it with others that have already done it really gets me ready to go. It'll be here before we know it!!!

Taught step class this morning. I upped the speed of the music so I am counting 4.5 miles. My right side SI, Piriformis, and IT are all bugging me. NICE! Oh, and I'm starting to get a sore throat. My son went to the doc yesterday and has strep so.... I think I'm going to bag the extra mileage today and go so my chiropractor and hope things start feeling better. And I'm going to load up on Airborne!
Later AM-Well I ended up feeling decent so I decided to go to the gym. I planned on 6 miles running but when I got there, they were doing quad step and I couldn't resist. It is more side to side movement, rather than all the jumping up plyometrics. I was late so I'll count 5 miles for the 50 minutes and then I ran 2 miles on the treadmill at 8:34 pace. My lower back was KILLING me when I got done so I decided to go roll on a 4 lb. sport ball. I did that for about 20 minutes and worked on my glute area, hamstrings and IT band and suprisingly, when I got up, NO PAIN-NONE!!! Need to remember that next time this flares up. |

My hubby and me met a few BBK's for the early miles. I'll be honest, I really thought about quiting a mile or so in. The snow was pelting us in the face. It actually felt like a sand storm. I liked Rachel's comment about microderm. I'm glad I stuck it out though because the snow let up and it ended up being a nice, easy paced run. I talked with several people today and all around just enjoyed it. My right side aches and pains were noticeable today but not as bad as yesterday. I will roll on the foam roller again and see if that continues to help. Jared quit at 6 miles (I told him to), so he will have more for Saturday's race. This will be his second race, his first was on Thanksgiving (5k) and his highest mileage is 8 miles. I hope he enjoys the race and doesn't try to be a hero and sprint at the beginning of 13.1 miles:)

I didn't participate in the lower body part of things. My SI and IT are bugging a little so more rolling today and praying that it gets better. I only have 1 more week of hard training before my taper for Boston. 1 week!!! I cannot be injured this close! |

| Whew! I hate the wind! That was a TOUGH race this morning. Miles: 1-7:28 Way too fast. I was pushing a 6:30 for part of this mile and then slowed down a little. 2-7:31 More even pace but still too fast. 3-8:15 Tithing hill, into the wind and paying for going out too fast 4-7:56 Feeling kind of yucky. Took a GU 5-8:14 Into the wind and feeling crappy 6-8:16 Same as 5 7-7:56 Julie and Angela caught up to me and I ran with them. That helped a ton 8-8:15 Not sure, just slower 9-7:48 Starting to feel a little better. Turned out of wind and took a GU 10-8:07 S-curve hill so to be expected 11-7:43 Starting to feel pretty decent 12-7:26 Felt good 13-7:24 Starting to feel pretty tired .1-:52 (6:29 pace) Gave it all I had and finished right with Angela. Angela was the 8th woman and I was 9th. Really tough course and conditions. The headwind really whiped me out from miles 4-7.5. It is amazing how much you slow down with a wind. It wasn't my day all in all. Other than the first mile, I really didn't feel good. Definitely a sign that I went out WAY TOO FAST!!! Jared (my husband) finished in 1:47. This was his first 1/2 and he hadn't run more than 8 miles so I was very impressed with that time. Especially for the conditions. Peggy and Lynette got 2nd and 3rd overall woman. Walter, Tyler S. and Sean Bullock were 1,2,3 in the men. Overall very impressive. It was fun but definitely not one of my best races. I felt like I gave it a 1:40 or less effort but ended up with 1:43:15. I did get 1st in my age group though so that makes me happy:) |

| I went to go run on the treadmill at the gym and started out nice and slow but could hardly run. I was definitely limping so I decided to bag my run and stretch. I feel like my sciatic nerve is pinching on my right side. I made an appointment to go see my my Chiropractor and see if that will help things. I am kicking myself for racing Saturday. I knew things weren't feeling 100% and I should have taken it more easy. I just hope that I can get adjusted and ice and see if that'll help things. I actually hurt from low back down to my knee. The pain isn't terrible but because it is pinching, it makes it hard to run. Walking is fine though. I will see what he says this afternoon and pray in the meantime:) |

| Met the BBK's this morning for a track workout. I ended up quiting about 20 minutes early, hoping to error on the good side. My aches and pains felt decent when I woke up but were quite noticeable when I started running. I took it easy the whole time and averaged 8:51. I did have a few miles around 8:15 but they felt very comfortable. I will ice and rest and hope that this thing will start feeling better. Dean sent me an article from Runners World about tapering and I think I'm going to start tapering now rather than next week. I have done a 2 and 3 week and didn't notice a significant difference but I'm sure I'll notice a big difference (not a good one) if I don't ease up right now. |

Early AM-Taught step class. Leg is hurting dangit! Only did 1 riser and had a hard time concentrating and cueing. Aaahhh! I have to teach step again at 6:00 tonight. I will see how it goes. I think I might take tomorrow off.
Afternoon-Went to the Chiropractor again. Felt good.
PM-Taught another step class. I felt good so I decided to push. I did 2 risers. We did intervals between combos. Leg hurt a little but really felt quite a bit better. I will give myself 6 miles for it. I also did some abs and a little back and biceps.
I am going to go in the morning but try and just keep it flat and comfortable. |

Met the BBK's early and started to warm up. My lower shin is KILLING me and my running form was so altered that everything else started hurting again. I'm really wondering now if it is a stess fracture. Ughhh!!! Anyway, I stopped and walked back to my car. It was quite a painful walk.
Well, I just got back from the chiro and i hopefully have a diagnosis. Yesterday he pushed along my inner part of my shin bone and the connective tissue and it was a little painful but not terrible so he thought it was either inflamation of the tissue there or a possible stress fracture. I went and taught may step class last night and did lots of jumping and moved a lot faster. Woke up this morning and it was hurting pretty bad but when i started running it killed so I adjusted my form and I think it started making my IT, low back, and the outside of my lower leg hurt. Anyway, today when he pushed on the same area, I about went through the roof but the area seemed to have actually gotten bigger. Well, he thinks it could be a bad shin splint. I've only had shin splints on the outside of my lower leg, not the inside. My thought is that my new shoes (Asic Cumulus) are enough different from the Nimbus that I am pushing more off my toe and that is what has caused it. Bummer, I thought I liked the Cumulus. I guess I have to stick with the more expensive Nimbus. In the mean time, I guess I will ice it and take it easy and hope for the best. He thinks I should be fine for Boston but you never know. So, shin splints....Yuck, I will never belittle the thought of shin splints again. |

Taught total body class this morning. It is hard to not participate. I am going to call Dr. Toronto today and see if there is any chance at all they can get me in SOON. I don't quite know what to think of my leg. I still am wondering if it could be a stress fracture. It doesn't seem to feel any better and I really can pin point 1 spot that hurts on the edge of the bone and down under the bone in the tissue. I guess I will see.
Well, I was lucky and got into see Dr. Toronto this morning. I am SO glad. I have some tendon issues that connects to my tibia and it is late stage 2 of 3 phases. 1st phase is pain and inflammation, 2nd phase is same as 1 but also starts weakening the bone enamel where it connects, and 3rd is a stress fracture. He said he could see some darkness on the xray so it has broken down the enamel of the bone but hasn't caused a fracture YET. He put me on Prednisone and said we won't be able to tell anything until Friday. He said if it is improving then Boston still might be a go but if it is still hurting significantly...well, no Boston. In the meantime, no running or step or plyometrics. Cycling, elliptical, swimming. That's it. I hope for the best but it is what it is and I can't change it so.....again, we will see. Oh, and cause is for sure the shoes. He said that is why I had the pain first in my knees and back. Man, I wish I could have figured that out 2 weeks ago! |

I'm going to blog my progress. I woke up feeling pretty darn good but then after walking around for a bit it starts to ache. That is progress though because it usually aches right when I get up. I'm going to a cycling class and I will see how that goes. I will report later. I'm counting my 1 hour of cycle class as 6 miles. It felt really good to get my legs moving and get my heart rate up. |

I'm feeling pretty good this morning. Right now, there is very little pain. He told me to try jumping on one foot this afternoon and see how it felt compared to Monday. I think I will wait until way later this evening and see. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to a cycle class or just relax again today. I will report later if I decided to head out. 3 of my 5 kids are sick so I'm a little nervous about me getting sick. Went to cycle class. It felt AWESOME! My leg didn't hurt and it felt so good to get my legs moving. I'll count 6 miles for the hour. I am feeling a little more hopeful today on my leg healing in time:) |

Taught weight class this morning. I had a really good turnout. I didn't participate in the lower body part of things again. I am going to head over to cycle class at 9:00. My leg is aching a little more today than yesterday but I also massaged it really good last night. It isn't the sharp pain that I felt earlier in the week, it is more of an achy feeling so that is probably a good thing. Went to cycle and only stayed for 30 minutes because I started to feel my leg. Feels okay now. |

| Well, the leg felt great. We got to the starting area a little late because our bus driver got lost and led 4 others astray. So, we got in line for the potty and as soon as we were done, headed to the corrals. We were going to start in Deans corral (16) but we didn't make it up that far so we started in 21. Splits 1-9:29 Nice and slow 2-8:57 3-8:42 4-8:29 5-8:33 Feeling good and took a GU 6-8:30 Mentioned to the group that I didn't ever want this marathon to end. 7-8:35 8-8:31 9-8:26 10-8:32 Our goal was to feel fresh at 10 and I did. I took my 2nd GU and 3 ibuprofen to keep on top of any pain that might start. 11-8:43 12-8:20 13-8:30 Was really amazed that we were already half way through. 14-8:43 15-8:22 3rd GU and I also took an electrolyte pill because my quads started cramping.
16-8:25 First major hill. I flew up it feeling really great. I turned to Jody and told her how glad I was to have some uphill. My quads were really feeling the down. 17-8:34 18-8:21 19-8:25 20-8:32 4th GU
21-10:04 Yes, you read that right! Aah, my quads were KILLING me. Heartbreak Hill did break my heart:( I walked for 1 minute. 22-8:38 Recovered a little on the downhill here but feeling pretty hammered. 23-9:07 Beginning of the yucky for me. 5th GU
24-9:17
25-9:15 26-9:20 .2 ( I clocked .41)-3:42 (9:02 pace) I will begin by saying that I am 100% happy with my time. It was so much fun and the most awesome experience. I want to go back next year for sure. Now, let me explain my slowing. I'm pretty sure that because of all the water gain from the prednisone, that my body started flushing it all out beginning Wednesday of last week. I think that it flushed a lot of electrolytes out with it because I have never experienced cramping like this. Cardio wise I felt fantastic but my legs gave out. I'm sure it didn't help that I didn't run for 3 weeks prior either. No excuses though. Although, a learning experience again. I feel great now other than some soreness. Okay major soreness. I could hardly move on Tuesday but feel a ton better today (Wed). |

Taught Total Body class. My leg is bugging me a bit again. I'm going to try and run at the gym but if it is bugging me, I think I'll do bike or elliptical or stair climber. Later AM-Rode the upright bike at a moderate pace for 60 minutes (18 miles=6 miles running). Tried to run on treadmill but my leg is hurting again. I think I am going to play it smart and bag Ogden and cross train for the next 2-4 weeks and see what happens. |

Taught Step this morning and it SUCKED! The microphone was having issues and stopped working about 10 minutes in. We were doing travel step with intervals and it is REALLY hard to yell and have your heartrate that high and try to cue the next combo. I'm pretty sure my class hated me today. Oh well, there's always tomorrow for dreams to come true:) Can anyone name the movie that song is from?

| Met Julie this morning to clock the Bluffdale 10K. Actually we were going to do both the 10K and the 5K but we were both beat and decided to just do the 10K. Kind of tired and overall pace was around 9:00 and ended with 6.88 miles. We got back to the car and Julie had dropped her key somewhere and I had locked my keys in her car so we called my hubby and he brought a spare and we went back to where we thought she'd lost it and WALLA, there it was. We had some good laughs:) We ended up being off on the route and I was stressed about it so I got home and asked Jared to go with me on our bikes and reclock it. We got it right. I ended up with another hour of biking so I am counting 6 more miles for that but I figured I would just round it to 12 overall miles. I decided that I really HATE biking. I couldn't find my cycling shoes, I think I left them at the gym. Oops! So I had to ride my daughters bike and it just overall sucked. I think I work harder and go slower uphill riding a bike than when I run up a hill. Just a thought:)

| Met up with the BBK's this morning. We warmed up off track for about 1-1 1/2 miles (garmin battery was dead). Did a 400, 300, 200, 100 fast/recovery workout. We did it 2 times in that order and 2 times in the reverse order. I was supposed to end with a fast 400 but thought I might puke so I stopped. My AP (not including the warm up) was under 8:00. That is my problem, I jump back in head first. So, I may be discontinuing my early classes. I am getting a little frustrated with keeping up my running and teaching. I've noticed that my running has suffered ever since I started teaching in February. I can't do everything I guess:(

Met the BBK's for a hilly workout. Did about .85 warm up, then 2 miles through the hilly course. We did it 2 times, followed by a little over a mile cooldown. I hate the hills but all in all I felt good considering all the time I've taken off. I felt a little tightness/pain in my leg when we started but it felt better after the first mile and it feels fine now. Note to self: I feel great 10 minutes after I wake up, so quit justifying staying in bed. AP-8:40-Including warm up and cool down. My split thingy wasn't set on my garmin so I don't know what the middle miles were but I am thinking around 8:20ish. By the Way-I am in charge of the Bluffdale 5 and 10K on June 13. Anyone who is interested should come and run it. It should be a fun, cheap race. You can check out the website at www.bluffdale.com or sameday registration before 6:15 (the race starts at 6:30) at 14400 So. and Redwood Rd. This is the first race I've done so I could use the moral support:)

| Taught sculpting class early this morning. I went to the elementary school to pace some of the 6th graders for the National and Presidential Fitness awards. My son had already earned the National but needed a 7:32 to get the Presidential and was of by 12 seconds. I first paced the slow girls that needed 11:17 to get the National. 2 of them took off and ended up with 9:45, I stayed with 1 and she was bawling and hyperventilating and got 10:45 and the last one just mentally didn't have it. She had about 100 yards left and if she would've run, she would've done it but she stopped and walked and missed it by 15 seconds. I then paced my sons group and the first boy got 7:21, my boy got 7:31 and the other 2 missed it by 4 and 28 seconds!!! One of the girls that go 9:45 and one other girl asked if I would pace them and try to get the Presidential and I ran them in at 8:18! These kids are so awesome and it is cool to watch them succeed at something they don't think they can do. I think I would go back and do this every year even if I don't have a kid doing it. Way fun. So my miles were 10:45, 7:21, and 8:18. The 7:21 felt a little tough to me but not too bad. Other than that, pretty easy. BTW, this was all run on uneven grass.

| Julie, Jody and Lisa Dudley met me in Bluffdale to run and mark the 5k and 10k for next week. We ran the 5k pretty slow in 27:xx and then ran another .21 back to the starting line to recover. We then ran the 10k a lot quicker. Julie had an AP of 8:18 but her and Lisa finished about 30 seconds before Jody and I so we probably had closer to 8:25 (52:xx). We ran another .44 miles slowly to the car. I have been REALLY tired this week being the first week back consistently running and getting up early every morning. The 5k felt good but I got pretty tired on the 10k. Although we sped up considerately. I really felt the crash the last 2 miles. This is the longest I've run since Boston. |

I was in van #2 running leg 10. This first leg was an easy 3.6 miles but I didn't want to go all out because I was stressed about Ragnar. We met in Liberty for the first van exchange at 6:00. I saw lots of bloggers and other people. I even saw my 7th grade boyfriend:) Anyway, van 2 was a little slower this year. Nothing too exciting about this leg. 7:59 overall pace. I started faster (DUH) and slowed down the last 1.6. When will I learn to start a little slower and then speed up?

| 2nd leg started around 5:00 AM. We didn't get any sleep. We tried at East Canyon Reservoir but I was kind of wired and we'd only been laying there for about 45 minutes when van 1 called to tell us they were getting close. Ughhh!!! So, we jumped up and cleaned up our stuff and headed back out. I really enjoyed this leg. I started while it was dark and it gradually got lighter. I decided to just relax and take this one easy so my overall pace was 8:50 for the 7.7 miles. Felt way good and only got passed by a couple of super speedy guys. Well, no rest again because van 1 only took around 3 hours to complete their last legs. We had some driving around to do. One of the girls in our van was nursing her new baby so her hubby met up with us, another needed to be done earlier so we had to drop her off to get her car and then all regroup in Heber. Kind of a pain. Anyway, this was what I had been dreading for weeks. I got to the start of the 4 mile march of death and the rain had stopped. I started out at a slow jog and thought, holy crap, you have got to be kidding me!!! Around 1/4 mile, a friend of mine saw me and jumped out of his van and ran for about 1/4-1/2 with me. That helped take my mind off things. I hit the mile point in 14 1/2 minutes. Wow, I didn't realize I could be so slow. My calves were on fire but my breathing was pretty decent. The next mile was still way hard but I sped up a little. The rain started back up with a vengence! 3-4 I felt pretty good and decided to run on the straight and walk up the killer switch backs. My last mile ended up being just over 12 minutes so I ended up averaging 13:05. Wow, is all I can say!!! That was the most mentally grueling thing I have ever done! I wanted to quit so bad the first mile. My lack of running over the past couple months did not help at all. I would be curious to see how I'd do on this though, if I had trained a little better. All in all, a great time. I was completely exhausted though. We didn't get home until 6:00 PM and I fell asleep around 8:30 and didn't budge until 9:30 on Sunday. I still don't have a lot of energy. I like van 1 better, you tend to get more sleep and longer breaks. Oh well, at least it is summer and I can relax!

I felt awesome until the last mile heading into the wind uphill. I started to feel kind of yucky. I didn't eat anything before I went and my stomach started to feel yuck. Overall, a great run and very relaxing. Now, we'll see if I can actually pull my butt out of bed and meet the group tomorrow morning. I've really enjoyed sleeping in this past week. I averaged around 8:30 for the first 4 miles but then turned uphill in the wind and slowed significantly and averaged 8:45 for the last couple of miles. I didn't eat or drink anything before I went out and I can really tell on my energy level. Some people don't need to eat but I don't think my body dips in to my reserve enough so I feel like I have to eat something. Anyway, that's that! |

I was paired up with Julie. We did 8x600 (4 each) @ 5K pace or faster. We then regrouped and did 400 on/400 off 3 times, followed by 2 laps of all out on straight recovering on curves. Can I just start by saying that I really dislike 10K's!!! Tough distance to race. I am definitely not in the greatest shape right now and today showed that for sure. Also, this is kind of a tough course. Flat or uphill are all ya get:) Oh, there is a teeny bit of down but not much. Last year they had around 250 runners for this race and this year there were 411!
I started with Julie and Rachel and felt pretty strong the first mile or so but my legs started aching pretty quick. My breathing evened out around mile 3 but my legs just didn't want to go any faster than they were going. I had 3 of my middle miles in the 8's but my other 3.2 were mid 7's so...Anyway, not my greatest race, although, a PR for a 10K race. I have only run 5 10Ks and they have all been at a bad time for me physically. Not a great PR but a PR none the less. I'm hoping to do the Deseret News 10K and bring that time down. AP 7:57.

| Met the BBK's this morning for the Parkway Palisades Hill Run. This was the first BIG workout. We did about 4 miles of warm up REALLY slow (but it felt GREAT) probably about 9:30-9:40 AP. We started the speed by doing 4 strides to get the blood flowing:) Followed by 2 of the 1 mile long hill repeats @ 1/2 marathon pace. Then we did a 2 mile tempo and 2 more sprints for about 200 yards each and last, a mile of cool down. AP for the actual work out was around 8:05-8:10. I forgot to turn off my garmin last night so it was deader than a door nail this morning so I am going off of Julie's watch. I felt GREAT today! Thanks Kelli, Julie and Nancy for keeping me company:) Oh, and my hubby joined us after the warm up. I didn't expect him and he ran past me and slapped my butt. I had to climb 2 fences to get back to the meeting place:) Cheris and me ran through Bingham High looking for an open bathroom and then had to catch up with the group. I ran my first couple miles of the speed part at a decent pace but started to slow significantly. My AP was 8:45 for the next 6.2 miles. I had decided not to watch my pace on my garmin today and usually when I do this, I run faster but I just had 0 energy today. | What a fun run! Julie came to my house and we headed down to Provo. It started at 6:30 and the temps were perfect. We started at the trail heading up Provo Canyon. We had just under 6 miles of consistent uphill then turned around and headed back down. I lost my signal a couple of times on my garmin so I'm not going to put my mile splits on here. Kelli and sis-in-law turned at the wrong spot and Rachel and me followed so we were about .1 short at the end but no biggie. AP was 8:10. I felt surprisingly good for how crappy I felt this week. Thanks Michelle, Josse, Marion and anyone else that helped. SOOO much fun! |

| I woke up late this morning and it was way too hot to run outside so I headed to the gym later on. Right when I hit 5 miles, I got called to the child center. My 7 year old had fallen off the monkey bars and her arm was hurting her. Funny, they told me they thought she was fine but her arm (right above the wrist) looked a little crooked. I took her to the Doc and sure enough, broken through both bones. So, I'll have to make up the extra 2 miles over the next 5 days. AP 9:22. Nice and easy and I felt fabulous. I was a little nervous to run today because I could feel my shin again but it didn't bother me at all:) |

| Met the BBK's to run up to Suncrest and back. We warmed up for 2.5 then regrouped and headed up. About 1 mile up, I had to go potty BAD so I stopped and waited for everyone to pass and headed for the bushes. I got back out on the road and got about 100 feet and realized I had pokeys in my sock and shorts. Yes, I sat in something wrong. So, I spent the next several minutes pulling 20-30 pokeys out of my short liner. I finally got back moving and made it about another 1/2 mile when I saw Jody heading back down so I just decided to head down with her. We ran another loop around where we warmed up. I had planned on doing another few miles but my inner thighs were chaffing really bad and I had to go to the bathroom AGAIN. So, I called it good at 7.2 and headed home. I decided on the way home to get the dog and go another 2.8 so I ran in and changed into some more comfy shorts and did. My pace today was SLOW. Something like 9:40ish. Oh well. Now, off to Lagoon:) |

Ran the Deseret News 10K early this morning. I picked up Julie at 4:45 and we headed up to Research Park. Got there around 5:20 and found Rachel, Teena, Smooth, and Jody. So, let me say it again. I HATE 10K's!!! It is such a tough distance. You have to start fast to make good time and I burn out too quick. Ughh! 1-6:52 I felt pretty good. A little out of breath but not terrible. 2-7:02 This mile would've been faster but my shoe came untied and my foot was slipping so I had to stop and tie it. That little stop kind of killed me cuz it sucked from here on out. 3-7:44 A little uphill at this point and just trying to get back into it. 4-7:33 A little better. This is about where the parade route started and people were cooking sausage and stuff and I wanted to hurl. It stunk so bad.
5-7:31 6-8:03 Embarrasing! The road flattened out and so did I. I really was feeling depleted at this point. My legs felt great, my breathing was okay but I just had NO energy. .2-1:40 I got passed by several people the last .25 but that pace tells why:) A PR for me in a 10K race but not the distance. Also a PR in the 5K (22:22). So, I'm trying to decide what the heck is wrong with me. I just am lacking motivation and energy. I hope something changes soon!!! After the race I hung around with the crew and watched the marathon finishers come through. It is so amazing to see the determination on their faces. The poor 2nd place lady (3:02) collapsed at the finish line. I don't know if I have it in me to push to that point. I saw tons of bloggers after also. A great experience and lots of fun but not a great race:( Oh, I took 22nd in my age group. The first place female in my division came through at 32:xx!! Holy crap that's fast.

Met the BBK's this morning at Bingham Track. We warmed up for 3 miles off the track and 1 mile on AP 9:10. The speed consisted of a 5k broken up 400, 800, 3x1000 (all with 200 recoveries and they were SLOW recoveries around 10:00+ pace) then a 2 mile tempo off track. We came back to the track and we were supposed to do another 400 and 200 to finish off the 5k but I needed to cooldown and didn't have time to do both so I finished and hurried home. AP for the speed (with recoveries and cooldown) 8:05. 1-7:33, 2-7:34, 3-7:49, 4-8:31, 5-8:01, 6-8:54 (included cooldown) All in all I felt pretty good today but I definitely could feel my race from Friday. Heavy legs, heavy breathing. Someday, hopefully soon, I'll get back to normal. Did core work, back and biceps and some good stretching.

Okay, I have been sooo busy! I went camping right after the race and haven't had 2 seconds to blog and still don't so I will report later.
So, I woke up at 3:45 which felt like 2:45 because I just got back from Oregon on Thursday night. Anyway, got down to Springville early and picked up my number. I got back in the car and TRULY contemplated laying down and going to sleep and not running. I have lacked motivation and wasn't really too interested in racing. Anyway, as usual, the race started about 30-45 minutes late. Luckily it wasn't very cold so it wasn't a big deal. I had talked to Teena and Walter about what they were planning on and thought I would try and stay with them. I kept them in my sights until mile 9. That is when I died! So here are the miles... 1-7:14 I had planned to start a little fast to make up for the flat at the end and I just tried to keep up with Teena. 2- 7:20 Feeling pretty darned good 3- 7:28 Slowed a little but still feeling pretty good. Took Vanilla Bean GU. 4- 7:24 Feeling pretty good 5- 7:29 Feeling good 6- 7:23 7- 7:43 8- 7:33 9- 7:48 The start of bad things to come 10-8:31 Yeah, I know. I walked for 30-40 seconds. It got REALLY hot and I started feeling really depleated. Espresso Love GU
11-8:30 Pretty much the same. Walked again. 12-8:20Walked again.
13-7:54 I actually looked at my watch and decided that I could walk for 30-45 seconds, run an 8 minute pace and still make it in under 1:40, so, I did. I just gave up. Although, I didn't have anything left. So, let me just say, I was really unhappy with my time and overall race BUT, considering my lack of training, I guess I should be happy. You get out what you put in and if you look at my training, I haven't been putting it in. Oh, and the fact that I have gained 8-10 pounds since last years Hobblecreek doesn't help either. I don't know if I am just going through a big slump or what but I really don't have the motivation to train the way I need to so I need to adjust my thoughts on my race times if I don't plan on training. Anyway, that is that! I am a little sore but not terrible.
Last year I ran 1:35:04 and placed 29th overall female and 5th in my age group. It was a tough crowd this year.

I'll put my splits in later. I actually feel really good about this time considering my total lack of miles and speed. I was a little envious of all the PR's but I didn't put in the work and couldn't expect anything more. I am just soooo happy for all of my friends that did so well!
1-8:49 Right where I wanted to be 2-8:45 Still a good warm up pace 3-8:29 Wish I could've been about 10 seconds faster but nervous to give too much the first 1/2 4-8:01 Had some good down hill to carry me 5-8:03 Feeling good. Took first GU 6-7:57 Downhill and feeling good
7-8:20 I held back a little to recover the heart a little for VEYO 8-9:25 I saw Smooth and was so excited. I ran up Veyo with her and it saved me big time. We ran past 2 litlle old men that must have been 75 or so and she said to them, "you will not geezerize us!" I nearly peed my pants laughing. She is the funniest thing ever. 9-9:05 Had some downhill coming off of Veyo but potty stop #1 in the bushes:( Also a GU stop
10-8:55 Uphill 11-8:47 Some more uphill
12-8:39 13-8:53 Bushes potty break #2. Those darn GU's are hitting my gut like a ton of bricks. 14-8:37 15-7:46 Took 3rd GU
16-7:48 17-8:57 Porta potty break (Notice my breaks are within 10 minutes of a dang GU) 18-8:03 19-9:23 Hill with the overpass. I saw my big brother who was really sick so I stopped and walked with him for about 2 minutes up the hill. 20-8:36 Stopped to take a GU with brother and then picked it back up. He started to walk and I struggled with the thought of staying with him or just getting it over with. I had nothing but downhill from here but my blisters on my left foot were killing me. I decided to leave him though:( 21-9:02 Well, you guessed it...10 minutes post GU what do I need to do. ANOTHER STINKING (literally:) POTTY BREAK! 22-8:30 Knew I wasn't going to hit 3:40 at this point so thought I would shoot for 3:45
23-8:30 24-8:10 Feel good but getting a little hot 25-8:48 Hit me like a ton of bricks but my hip and foot hurt and I was hot and ready to be done! 26-8:49 Usually the crowds help but I was tired. I even walked for about 15 seconds. .2-Forgot to stop watch of coarse but had a pretty strong kick to the end. I was watching my watch seeing that I had 20 seconds to get under 3:46 and made it with 2 seconds to spare. So, I am very happy with my time and learned a lot about myself in this race. I know I have the potential to do well if I will put in the work. I really enjoyed this marathon and don't feel like I am too beat up. Too bad I can't run em all like this and just be happy with it. Always have to one up ourselves:) I signed up for the runners series this morning but I don't think I am going to race until Painters. I need to build up my base and cross train and find the joy in running again. It just hasn't been here the past couple of months. Anywho, another huge congrats to everyone who did so well! I am in awe of everyone:)

Well, back at it again today. My legs weren't too sore after Saturday but they felt like they had a ton of bricks in them. So, I headed to the gym today and did back/biceps/abs followed by a fun step class. Holy crap though, my heart rate was like 180 the whole class. Not a great recovery work out.

My overall pace ended up being 9:02. That is the fastest since SG but it was also the hardest. I HAVE to get back at it. I hate feeling this crappy. Got home and did some abs and legs.

| Finally went to running group this morning. We ran in Herriman. I felt pretty crappy for the first 1/2 but then we headed down hill and I was able to pick it up a little and felt pretty good. Only problem was the mucus in my chest made it hard to breath. I thought it was totally cleared up but it starts flowin' when I run. I don't have any clue what my pace was cuz my Garmin was dead this morning. Note to self: I feel so much better being up early before my kids.
