Short-Term Running Goals:

I've gotten the running bug back and hope I can continue to enjoy it. I think for now, my short-term goal is to NOT burn myself out. I am pro at doing that. I have a half and full marathon that I am planning on racing in a few months. I hope to be trained well enough to PR in both, but if not...I will enjoy the ride.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Under 1:30 half

3:15 marathon

Married with children. 17,16,14,11 and 7. 3 boys, 2 girls. I have the best husband in the world!

Started at Lahaina at 6:45. I wasn't sure right where it started so I was at the back of the crowd which kind of stinks because it wasn't chipped.

Miles

1-8:21 was spent passing all the slower runners.

2-7:55

3-8:09 GU and water stop

4-8:07 started picking off the women in front of me.

5-7:58 Gatorade

6-7:51

7-7:44

8-7:59 Gatorade

9-7:52

10-7:56 GU and water

11-8:00 Starting to crap out

12-8:13 Some uphill and feeling really tired

13-7:51

.14-59 seconds

Okay, so one by one I picked off several ladies. The first 2 were out of reach at the turn around but I passed the 3rd place lady but she got back in front about a mile later. We battled it out up until the end and she kept really strong so I just didn't have it in me to push past her. I'm glad I didn't beat her because we went to breakfast after with her and her husband. They were from Vegas. So, here are all my excuses of why this was not my greatest race. 1-I ran Painters a week ago, 2-Time difference has me screwed up, 3-Elevation (it is different running at sea level), 4-Blisters on my toes from running on the beach, 5-Shin splints and aching tendons from running on the beach, 6-The heat (not used to it). I guess that about covers it all:)

There were 142 people that ran the 1/2. I took 14th overall (men and women) and 4th in the women. The 2nd place women only finished 30 seconds ahead, and the 3rd was 1 second ahead. Had I not started in the back, I probably would have been 2nd or 3rd:( Oh well. They gave trophies to the top 10 women so I got a trophy. YAY! Not a huge race but put on well and lots of fun.

Those are all totally understandable excuses, that and you are ON VACATION!!! However, you did great, really. You will have to post a picture of your trophy!!!

From Cheryl on Sun, Jan 25, 2009 at 22:36:51

Great job, I think you did awesome, coming in 4th for the women. I'm sure you and Jared are having a great time over there.

Thanks everyone. As you can see, my brother, CJ (peej) is now on the blog. He lives right by me so we end up running together a bit but he is doing an Iron Man in June so he does a lot of other stuff also. I keep trying to get him to come to running group so everyone bug him.

From kellies on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 13:32:02

Wow, Way to go!! Did you go to Hawaii for that or just decide to run it while you were there? I have got to get on board with exercising while on vacation, impressive. Great job!

From Julie on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 18:40:59

Michelle you did awesome. 4th place overall is great. Especially just one week after Painters. Did Jared run it with you?

From Michelle N. on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 02:01:59

Kellie-I just heard about it on the plane ride over and decided it would be fun. If I had known about it sooner, I wouldn't have done Painters. It was fun though.

Julie-Thanks. No, Jared decided not to. It was pretty pricey so just me. It was fun.

From Andy on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 09:54:36

Very well done considering you were on vacation and just ran a race last week.

From peej on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 12:58:20

michelle- I did swim a bit over a mile last night, and forgot about a dinner we had to go to so I didn't get to run yesterday. However I did wake up this morning and ran the river trail, I went 6 miles, it was 9 degrees, but it warmed up to 11 by the time I finished. hehe

So fun!!!! Great job!!! I think all of your excuses are very valid which then makes them not excuses but reality!!!!
