Ran the Deseret News 10K early this morning. I picked up Julie at 4:45 and we headed up to Research Park. Got there around 5:20 and found Rachel, Teena, Smooth, and Jody. So, let me say it again. I HATE 10K's!!! It is such a tough distance. You have to start fast to make good time and I burn out too quick. Ughh! 1-6:52 I felt pretty good. A little out of breath but not terrible. 2-7:02 This mile would've been faster but my shoe came untied and my foot was slipping so I had to stop and tie it. That little stop kind of killed me cuz it sucked from here on out. 3-7:44 A little uphill at this point and just trying to get back into it. 4-7:33 A little better. This is about where the parade route started and people were cooking sausage and stuff and I wanted to hurl. It stunk so bad.
5-7:31 6-8:03 Embarrasing! The road flattened out and so did I. I really was feeling depleted at this point. My legs felt great, my breathing was okay but I just had NO energy. .2-1:40 I got passed by several people the last .25 but that pace tells why:) A PR for me in a 10K race but not the distance. Also a PR in the 5K (22:22). So, I'm trying to decide what the heck is wrong with me. I just am lacking motivation and energy. I hope something changes soon!!! After the race I hung around with the crew and watched the marathon finishers come through. It is so amazing to see the determination on their faces. The poor 2nd place lady (3:02) collapsed at the finish line. I don't know if I have it in me to push to that point. I saw tons of bloggers after also. A great experience and lots of fun but not a great race:( Oh, I took 22nd in my age group. The first place female in my division came through at 32:xx!! Holy crap that's fast.
