Short-Term Running Goals:

I've gotten the running bug back and hope I can continue to enjoy it. I think for now, my short-term goal is to NOT burn myself out. I am pro at doing that. I have a half and full marathon that I am planning on racing in a few months. I hope to be trained well enough to PR in both, but if not...I will enjoy the ride.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Under 1:30 half

3:15 marathon

I'm actually not sure of my exact mileage today because I pushed stop instead of my light a couple of times on the Garmin and didn't realize it for a couple of minutes. I'm thinking it was around 8.4-8.5. Overall pace was pretty slow (around 9:30ish) but I really need to baby my hamstring so I don't make it worse and we did hill repeats today so I made sure to really hold back and take it easy.. It was nice to talk to Kris and Eric today.

Is there anything else you can do for a hamstring besides baby it? Ice? Heat? Stretching? Muscle rub?

From Michelle N. on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 11:32:49

I have been icing. Heat tends to make it worse. Stretching is iffy, you have to be careful. So running slow will be my biggest option this week. It isn't too bad yet but I learned from last year to not ignore it and then have a major problem. Hopefully it'll all just go away:)

From Rachel on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 16:57:18

Michelle, you did a great job this morning! I would've never guessed you were going slow, I think you were still kicking my trash every repeat!! Funny to see that the 'brother/sister' relationship doesn't change much over the years, still needing to get a jab in here and there :)

From Michelle N. on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 17:02:31

Geez Paul between you and my brother...

Way to go Ceej, you really ought to join us on Thursday!

Thanks Rachel! You are full of it:) I could see you ahead of me the whole time.

Michelle - I just read your race report on the Maui - half - nice race, always difficult to run in the humidity and heat. What a great place to run, and you got a trophy, 500 commando points. I have never been so dog tired after a marathon as I was at Maui marathon. There is just someting about the humidity and heat. Also, we likely do not get accilmated in a couple of days. Michelle, hamstring advice, excercise hamstring ball exercises, 3 times week, google hamstring ball excercises. It really works. Now, what a team, you and the Devine Miss M running together. You need a good handle. I will give it some thought.

Very smart girl!

From Michelle N. on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 22:30:59

Thanks for the advice Brent. Is the ball like a medicine ball? I have done that at the gym before but it has been a while. I need to remember these things:)

Thanks Kelli! Did anyone ever call you smelly? My brothers have called me smelly Michelly my whole life.

From Kelli on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 22:33:38

Well, no one has ever called me that to my face. Am I SMELLY??? Yeah, I am every time you see me.

My nickname was Jelly Belly, thus the insecurities about weight. ;-)

From Michelle N. on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 22:48:13

Whatever! You are so stinkin' cute. I've never ACTUALLY smelled you but I kind of liked the thought of being able to call someone else what I was always called. I get smelly, smell, smelly shelly, smelly Michelly...I could go on and on. The torment of being raised with 5 brothers.

From peej on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 13:42:41

Hey now, dont forget hag, chicky bob. he he! I ran last night and was hating life, thinking I was at a 56 min. per mile pace, and had my fastest run this year, whatever that was all about? Then had an awesome bike ride! P.S. I never tormented you, it was a lot of fun making you and your friends drink lemon juice!
